Greek In A Week 2004, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania

See Student Reviews

1. Dates and Times

Greek in a Week in Lancaster will be held the third week in July (July 19-23) as part of the Veritas Teacher Training Conference. Those who are traveling from out of town should arrive no later than July 18 since the first session begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. The normal class day will run until 6:00 p.m. with two half hour breaks and a one hour break for lunch. Snacks and lunch will be provided. The last day of class will finish earlier (12:00 p.m.) to allow time for those who wish to fly out in the evening.

2. Location

As part of the Veritas Teacher Training Conference, this year's GIAW will enjoy high quality accommodations at a large hotel and convention center. Specifics will soon be available.

3. Minimum Age and Limited Class Size

The minimum age of attendees is 16. In order to maximize personal instruction class sizes are limited to a maximum occupancy of 20. These spots are filled on a first come basis and may be reserved with a $50 deposit. Please email the instructor, to check for the availability of space in the class

4. Required Materials

The tutorial will also use the time tested standard, Machen's NEW TESTAMENT GREEK FOR BEGINNERS. The preceding title link will take you to The Trinity Foundation's website where you can order the book (hardback) directly from them. The book is also available from Amazon.com, but only in a much more expensive paperback, and it is an uncorrected edition. Trinity Foundation offers the paperback version for $11 and the hardback version for $17 --a bargain-- and it's a better edition. It's the same book, same layout, good quality binding and paper, and with errors corrected and wider margins for easier note-making.

This text will provide helpful descriptions of basic grammar many exercises to translate during the course. Mr. Schwandt's lectures do not merely reiterate Machen's text but are designed to reveal the consistent system of the language and the continuity of the six principal parts as well as noun forms.

In addition to Machen, introductory selections from Reviving Biblical Greek on pronunciation will be sent to students before the course begins. It is important to be comfortable with the alphabet prior to the intensive course. Links with free audio files will be sent to students to facilitate this preparation.

After the course finishes, a couple other texts are strongly recommend for review and assistance. These include:
A Reader's Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, by: Kubo Sakae

New Testament Greek Beginnings, by: David L. Thompson

5. Tuition and Registration Information

The tuition for the five-day intensive Greek course is $450 which includes lunches and the deposit. Please emial Veritas Academy to request an informative brochure and registration form. The brochure will include information on the entire Teacher Training Conference, as well as the hotel.
