ClassesIntermediate Greek Gospel: John (GRE 314)This web page is intended for students attending New Saint Andrews College in the 2006-2007 academic year, who are enrolled in Intermediate Greek Gospel: John (GRE 314). Please check back frequently to get the most recent updates to online texts and see any changes or additions to the course assignments and schedule. The primary objective for this course is to read the entire Gospel of John in the original Greek. Students will translate seven selected chapters in depth and submit reading notes. The remaining chapters will be quickly translated alongside the in depth work. This course is not merely a course on Greek grammar and syntax as students will be expected to learn the structure, flow and substance of the gospel. Students will sharpen basic biblical Greek grammatical skills as well as gain some intermediate proficiency. |

Unexcused absences will always negatively affect final grades. Students are responsible for all missed class notes and materials. If a student misses a substantial portion of the course with excused absences it may still lead to an incomplete or reduction in grade due to the school's policy on distance learning. II. Reading Check-sheet (5%) Since there will be many translations that will not be reviewed in class, students will be required to submit a reading check-sheet which will give them credit for timely completion of reading assignments and translations. III. Papers and Reading Notes (30%) Each week students will have a written translation due. In addition to the written translation, students must provide a number of grammatical notes that emphasize the grammar covered in the course. Students must also write down the lexical forms of every word they had to look up (up to 30) and provide an English gloss. Students should also provide a half page of exegetical or structural analysis of the passage. Students will be graded on completeness and ability to support their conclusions. Sometimes there will be additional grammatical assignments. IV. Mid Term Examination (25%) There will be a major term translation exam that will also ask questions about grammar and the content of the gospel. V. Comprehensive Vocabulary Exam (10%) There will be a comprehensive vocabulary exam at the end of the term. The vocabulary will come out of the vocabulary lists in Baugh's reader. VI. National Biblical Greek Exam (10%) Since we will be finishing basic Greek grammar this term, it is the perfect time to try the National Biblical Greek Exam. The exam is multiple-choice and may be taken multiple times. Students must present their results to the instructor by the last recitation. This exam is intended to give students a reason to review material from previous terms and should give students a clear idea of how much of the language they understand. Students must join class number 2222 after registering at www.greekexam.com and take the National Biblical Greek Exam by the due date. VII. Written Final Exam (15%) There will be a written examination, which will entail some double translation from I John, discussion of this terms grammar and some translation and some unseen translations. 4.
