ClassesLive Online ClassesBring professional instruction into your home through online classes!Benefits of online classes Learning Greek online makes Biblical and classical language learning possible no matter where you live or where you go to school. These online courses may be classified as "distance education," but given the audio/visual components and personal interaction, it is nothing like a traditional distance education course. The primary advantage to our method of providing professional instruction is the flexibility it affords to students without compromising the level of education that we offer. We have structured to course provide education from structures ranging from live weekly meetings with a professional instructor for a traditional academic year to an indefinite "work-at-your-own-pace" scenario. This structure also allows students who sign up for the 30 week course to revert to a "work-at-your-own-pace" system at any time. In either system students have the opportunity to work with the instructor in a live setting each week. They are able to ask questions and hear the other's questions during the online meetings. They also see demonstrations as the instructor draws them on the live online whiteboard. Students have the opportunity to speak biblical Greek which each other and can even form additional study groups when they can meet and practice their homework exercises together. Greek for self learners and schools that are unable to offer GreekSuch flexibility now makes it possible for anyone to learn historical Greek for their own benefit or for part of their education. Often times classical and Christian schools and colleges would like to offer Greek but simply don't have enough interested students to afford the specialized instruction. IBG combines these sets of students and will work with any institution (high school, college, or seminary) to offer a course that will satisfy their requirements. Basically, IBG enables schools to offer Greek without any cost or overhead (Assuming the student is willing to pay for the course.) Please have your school administrator contact us to work out the details. Is it classical Greek or Biblical Greek? The distinction between classical and Biblical Greek should only be an exegetical distinction and not be a pedagogical distinction. We chose the curriculum that will allow students to read the Greek NT as well as surrounding historical and classical material? So students do not have to choose between classical and Biblical Greek. In fact, it would be best if we simply distinguished Ancient Greek from Modern Greek. The name of this website is BiblicalGreek.org in order to distinguish it from Modern Greek sites and indicate that is an ancient Greek website with a focus on the Greek New Testament. Class DescriptionsThe IBG web courses are directed by, John Schwandt, M.A. He is a Senior Fellow of Classical Languages at New Saint Andrews College and has taught multiple language courses there for the past eleven years. Mr. Schwandt also developed Greek In A Week intensive language learning courses. This will be the tenth annual presentation of those courses at various locations across the United States this year. Mr. Schwandt founded and serves as the director of the National Biblical Greek Exam, which all web course students are encouraged to take. IBG is currently offering a variety of Greek courses and structures. The beginning level is for students who are new to Greek or would like to refresh themselves from the beginning. The intermediate reading group assists students to read the New Testament. To encourage participation it is open for month to month subscriptions. Students are given assistance to read three books of the New Testament each year. Not only may it be used for students who have just finished learning the basics, those whose skill may be a little rusty may use this course to sharpen their skills. Prof. Schwandt personally teaches the courses. He has years of experience teaching classes online. Prof. Schwandt is known as an energetic instructor whose enthusiasm for Greek is contagious. During the lectures, students are encouraged to type comments and questions in the real-time chat window for immediate feedback. The tutorials also utilize a traditional online posting forum to ask questions between class meetings. Get started learning Biblical Greek today! | This track provides the most flexibility and personal interaction for the tuition cost to work through volume 1 of the Athenaze curriculum. If students feel that the course is moving too slow or too fast they can always transfer to the work-at-your-own-pace track without any financial penalty, which will allow them to continue at their preferred speed. Upon completion of Athenaze volume 1, students are encouraged to enroll the second year course to complete volume 2. Although we recommend taking your time to work through volume 2 of Athenaze, often times graduate students need to complete beginning Greek within one year. We have and accelerated schedule and resources to help them accomplish their goal. |

We use a conferencing program called Web4m, which allows for live conferences over the internet (both PCs and Macintosh computers work). The conference system works like a website. You simply go to the class web page, login, and then you are part of the class with audio and visual communication. The program does not require high speed internet. It also records each course so students are able to review difficult material or watch classes that they missed. This also makes the courses available for those who have conflicts with the live course time. You can watch the lecture when your schedule permits. You will still see and hear everything as if you were watching the live course. There are also multiple avenues of communication to ask questions outside of lectures. Use of the program is included with the course tuition.
Do not confuse this live online course other so-called online courses that are actually traditional correspondence courses that only use email. Nothing compares to personalized live courses, which are now available through the Institute of Biblical Greek.
