What is the difference between nominative, genitive, dative, and accusative cases? Examples?

Hi everyone
Doug,
The nominative case deals with the subject of the sentence. For example,
Doug was at the store, Doug would be in the nominative case because he is the subject of the sentence.
The genitive case has to do with possessives. For example, the dog of John or John's dog, John would be in the genitive case because it shows to whom the dog belongs.
The dative case is the indirect objects case. For example, Josh baked Lisa a cake, Lisa would be in the dative case because Josh baked a cake for Lisa.
The accusative case is the direct objects case. For example, Rachel sang a song, song would be in the accusative case because it's what Rachel sang.
Hope this helps
